Finding the Right Hearing Device for Your Lifestyle

Finding the Right Hearing Device for Your Lifestyle Hearing devices come in all shapes and sizes to fit every individual’s needs and lifestyle. Before selecting a specific hearing aid, it is important to look into the different digital hearing devices on the market and the benefits each have to offer. One common Digital Hearing Devices is a hearing aid that completely fits in the ear. These hearing devices are small and almost unnoticeable. Since they are completely contained in the ear, they are also quite effective in blocking out wind. Because of their size, however, they cannot pick up as much sound as other hearing devices and are best for individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss. They also do not offer as long as a battery life as other digital hearing devices because of their small size. Another form of digital hearing devices are in the canal hearing aids, which fit partially in the ear canal. These hearing devices are small in size, discreet and best used for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss. They are moderately larger than completely in the ear hearing devices, and also offer a slightly longer battery life. Half-shell hearing aids provide another alternative for those with mild to moderately severe hearing loss. This is another digital hearing device that is custom moulded to fit in the lower part of the bowl-shaped section of the ear. These hearing devices are a little bit larger, offering increased sound amplification abilities, longer battery life and volume control. Because of their larger size they are also easier to adjust. In the ear or full-shell hearing aids fill most of the bowl-shaped area of the ear and work best for people with mild to severe hearing loss. This type of hearing device is easy to insert into the ear, and are relatively easy to adjust. Because they are not completely contained within the ear, they may pick up wind noises. However, because of their larger size they also have an increased battery life. Behind the ear hearing devices are digital hearing devices that rest on the back of the ear and carry sound to a module placed in the inner ear. These hearing devices are suitable for people of all ages and all levels of hearing impaired individuals. Behind the ear hearing devices have the ability to amplify sound the most. They are, however, the largest and most visible form of hearing aids. Because behind the ear devices are one of the most popular hearing aids on the market, audiologists are in the process of developing smaller or modified devices which still offer the same benefits of traditional behind the ear hearing devices. In addition to the actual digital hearing device, there are a variety of accessories available to accompany each hearing aid. Bluetooth technology, directional microphones, remote controls and telephone adaptors are just a few accessories on the market. An audiologist can provide the most up to date information regarding hearing devices and optional accessories.
